Catholic Education NT and SRA WORKING and WINNING TOGETHER

Together, Catholic Education NT and SRA Information Technology (SRA) have won the NT Innovation in Mobility iAward at the Australian Information Industry Association’s (AIIA) SA and NT iAwards Gala for their Attendance Management Map Application (AMMA).

The AMMA is now in the running for the National Innovation in Mobility iAward which will be announced at the National iAwards in Melbourne on 1 September 2016.

The Hon. Kyam Maher, MLC said, “Innovation in the digital economy offers huge possibilities for the future prosperity of communities and economies locally, nationally, and around the world. To make the short list for these awards, all of the nominees have brought game-changing ideas to the table. I congratulate the award winners, and look forward to their continuing contributions to the innovative future of our state.”

The AMMA is the first application developed specifically to combat truancy in remote communities, as well as focus and foster discussions between local indigenous families, school staff, truancy officers and the Commonwealth Government Remote Schools Attendance Strategy (RSAS) staff.

The AMMA allows users to confirm student attendance in real-time, map follow-up routes (improving efficiency) and increase attendance levels.  Its intuitive geographical mapping interface breaks language and literacy barriers, assisting when English is the Second Language.

Access is role-based (bus driver, attendance and/or truancy officer), with roles used to define how student attendance is highlighted (i.e. students truant for 10 days are highlighted red for a Truancy Officer). Households are colour-coded to indicate student attendance status: red indicates not at school (or role based perspective); yellow indicates student has been picked up; and green indicates student is in attendance (or role based perspective). Providing the correct focus on households based on perspective allows tailoring of strategies/workflows to improve and increase student attendance rates.

With a current daily attendance rate of 42%, approximately 400 of the 750 students in the Wadeye area are not attending school on any one day! The future of this indigenous population relies on improving student attendance rates.

The AMMA has the capacity to grow and evolve to provide insight into:

  • Student absentee patterns and trends
  • The relationship between attendance rates and grades
  • Managing a cohort of students to focus on attendance compliance or improvement
  • User messaging/alerts from the school

Currently used in the Wadeye area at the OLSH Thamarrur School, Catholic Education intends to roll the application out across the NT to help increase attendance rates of indigenous students in remote areas.  It has the capacity and potential to be used across the board for all students and schools.

Smart Cities is smart for business

Andrew is a thought leader with expertise in ICT Strategic Planning, Innovation & Policy, Economic Development, Program Management and Infrastructure Design, predominantly in the Public Sector.

Throughout his career Andrew has worked for a range of ICT corporates such as Digital, Compaq and Microsoft, where he was Regional Director for Emerging Markets in the Asia Public Sector team.

A consistent theme throughout Andrew’s 35+ years in the industry is driving engagement in Public Sector.  He has worked with teams to establish the strategy for their government engagements including eGovernment, innovation and Citizen Services.  He has worked in both the mature and emerging markets across Asia, across all levels of Government.

Andrew has developed an ability to view these areas through the “lens” of economic development and capacity building, which resonates well with Governments, particularly in emerging markets. In Australia he has been a key lobbyist for the ICT Industry through associations including the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), and the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

Hockey NT is grateful for SRA’s long-term support of the SRA NT Stingers and of individual players.

SRA expands to offer Placement Services

We have been helping clients with placement services for many years and recently noticed an increase in demand.  Clients that have worked with us previously have established relationships, feel comfortable with our team and have confidence with the expertise and professionalism we offer.

The SRA team was accommodating the needs of clients for placement services as well as their normal client work.  At first this was small, infrequent and easily managed, but as it grew the need for a dedicated Placement Services Manager grew.

Establishing a dedicated Placement Services Division was natural progression for SRA.

The first step in establishing this division was the appointment of Michelle Bieniasz as National Placement Services Manager.

Michelle brings extensive IT Placement experience, with more than 10 years’ experience in roles encompassing training, resourcing and account management.  She has a demonstrated talent for matching client needs to candidate aspirations, which leads to lasting, mutually beneficial relationships.

Extensive industry experience, a comprehensive understanding of industry requirements and an innate ability to recognise candidate/client suitability allows Michelle to tailor recruitment solutions that consistently deliver results.

SRA Information Technology helping MAP the future of Adelaide’s Northern Suburbs


SRA Information Technology (SRA) has a key role to play in the South Australian Government’s Northern Economic Plan.

The Plan, launched on the 28th January 2016, is an ambitious plan that aims to create jobs, improve social issues and engage young people in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide.

The State Government worked extensively with the Playford, Salisbury and Port Adelaide Enfield councils, as well as local businesses and residents to develop the Northern Economic Plan.

Part of the project included the launch of a new Government website – LOOKNORTH – that aims to make it easier for companies and individuals to invest in the north.

The website shows maps of the Playford, Salisbury and Port Adelaide Enfield Council districts, highlighting various projects in the districts, such as the $985 million Northern Connector project and $25 million worth of public housing upgrades.

SRA’s role in this exciting government initiative was to develop and implement a geospatial mapping solution that integrates with Department of State Development and Location SA data sources.  The solution was developed using a responsive design to ensure it is mobile friendly and to allow future growth.

It is expected that the mapping solution will be further developed in the future so that it can be used to showcase available land in the three districts, as well as zoning information; so investors wanting to build in the area can easily see what is available.
